Mississippi Destination ImagiNation

New Affiliate Fee

On September 2, the National Dairy Council reallocated their sponsorship funds away from Destination ImagiNation, Inc.  Mississippi Destination ImagiNation had received a $1,200 stipend from this sponsorship to support the DI program in Mississippi.  With the loss of this sponsorship, the Mississippi Advanced Problem Solvers’ Board of Directors voted to approve a new Affiliate Fee for the 2011-12 season.

When you start a team this year, Destination ImagiNation, Inc. will collect the Mississippi Affiliate Fee in addition to your team pak.  When you purchase a 1 pak, the MS fee will be $125.  When you purchase a 5 pak, the MS fee will be $400.  When you purchase 30 or more paks, the MS fee will be $75 per team.  When you purchase the non-competitive Rising Stars program, there will be no MS fee.

The MS Affiliate Fee will include both Tournament fees, an Affiliate T-Shirt for each team member and 1 Team Manager, and an Affiliate Pin for each team member and 1 Team Manager.  Therefore, when we send out the Tournament Registration forms, you will not have to pay for the Tournament fee, but will see a new column for T-shirt sizes.  The T-shirts will be distributed at the Regional Tournament.

What is Destination ImagiNation?

Destination ImagiNation is an innovative organization that teaches creativity, teamwork and problem solving to students across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. Its main program is an unconventional team learning experience where student teams all over the world solve mind-bending Challenges.

Destination ImagiNation® helps kids
develop a unique and critical skill set by emphasizing:

  • Creativity – Brainstorming, Creative & critical thinking skills, collaboration and presentation skills.
  • Problem Solving – Project management, knowledge application, and confidence.
  • Teamwork – time management, conflict resolution, and research skills.

Although this is the tenth program year under the brand name Destination ImagiNation®, officials and volunteers who organize the annual program have more than 25 years’ experience creating quality problem solving programs for kids.

Destination ImagiNation® is not just an extracurricular activity
, it is an extension of a Destination ImagiNation® brand of curriculum which draws on Creative Problem Solving strategies and the multiple intelligences of students to use what they have learned in the classroom in new and creative ways. In many places, it is a curriculum staple and also very popular in home school situations.

The Destination ImagiNation® program helps kids build important, lifelong skills like problem solving, teamwork, and divergent thinking.
Our teams solve two types of Challenges within the program year. The Team Challenge involves structural, technical, or theatrically oriented Challenges and takes several months to solve. Throughout that time the teams also practice improvisational Instant Challenges, which stimulate the team’s ability to think quickly and creatively with only minutes to prepare solutions. When tournament time rolls around, each team’s score reflects its Team Challenge performance plus its response to an Instant Challenge.

Creativity isn’t just a school-year activity.
Many state, local, and international Affiliates offer creativity activities for kids year-round, including summer camps that incorporate all of the fun and thoughtful activities that make learning interesting.

Corporate America believes in Destination ImagiNation®!
Our program has had and continues to have sponsors such as: 3M, Ameresco, MAE, and Center for Creative Learning. Sponsorship opportunities exist at the international and local levels.
